Bohios

Os "bohíos" são as habitações construídas pelos indígenas Tainos. São estruturas redondas com tetos cónicos e sem janelas. Existem também os "caney", estruturas rectangulares e com janelas, contudo estes apenas serviam de habitação para os caciques e bohiques. Contruidos em cana e palha, o chão é de terra.

Após a guerra do Golfo, com Saddam Hussein no poder, a existência destes pântanos vitais e de forte cariz religiosa tornaram-se também uma questão política do Iraque. Com a invasão das tropas americanas para libertação do Iraque, os xiitas que viviam nestes pântanos também contra o regime de Saddam foram punidos por este, quando desviou a água com muros e construiu diques, para que esta não irrigasse estas terras e secassem.

Marsh é uma cultura cultura árabe existente há mais de 5.000 anos no 8.000 milhas quadradas de terras húmidas alimentados por rios Tigre e Eufrates. Os pântanos sustentavam centenas de espécies de aves e peixes, e as inundações periódicas criaram terras agrícolas férteis.

A planície inundada desempenhou um papel importante no desenvolvimento de uma cultura baseada na agricultura que sustentou esta civilização. Alguns estudiosos da Bíblia identificaram o vasto pântano - o das zonas húmidas mais ampla no Oriente Médio - como o sítio do Jardim do Éden fabulosa.

Earthquake resistant architecture

In the small island of Nias (Indonesia) whereas the earthquake of 2004, many vernacular buildings are example how to make resistant structures aplying to traditional architecture. This show to us how to make use of specific materials like wood building this houses that can resist to earthquakes. The tecnique used and location have all adapted conditions to humid climate and hot. Since earthquake many buildings are being coonstruted in concrete not considering new disasters...only the older and traditional buildings were resistant to earthquakes. As i read :

There are various types of houses in island villages.
In north some are oval with roofs made of palm, and some windows in roof that provide the circulation of air. This can provide also the entrance of ligth in the house. There other windows around that also made ventilation. This buildings are elevated from the ground with strutural columns.

n center of Nias they have rectangular plans. Besides that, they have many decorations and ornamental art. The columns in front represent as a V.
